Every kid grows up with an innate interest in the world and the critters that inhabit it. Like bringing home a weird looking bug you found crawling around the neighborhood and wondering why your mom won’t let you keep it in the house (or, in my case, being lucky enough to have parents that nurtured my interest in all things creepy crawly and actually set up a whole room for me to keep my bug collection and pets!). Most kids grow out of it and move on to things like video games, sports, and hobbies, but I never did! I grew up spending every summer and school break in a different country where my parents were teaching so I was able to see almost every variety of natural habitat and the animals that lived there. My interest in butterflies and other insects continued through high school and into college where I attended Purdue University to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Entomology with a minor in Forensic Science and Conservation Biology. Over time my hobby became my business and Bicbugs, LLC was born in early 2011. With the help of my wife we have become the highest rated and most successful insect distributors in the United States!
Like Alex, I loved the outdoors as a kid and spent all of my free time outside or reading about the animals of the world. Since I was three years old I always said I wanted to work with animals. I was accepted to Purdue University’s Veterinary Medicine program and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. While pursuing my degree I met Alex at school and he opened my eyes to the amazing world of insects. I had taken some classes in Parasitology, so I knew a lot about things like fleas, ticks, and mosquitos haha, but that was about the extent of my knowledge of insects. I fell in love instantly! (with the insects, that is. I learned to love Alex over time.) Just kidding honey! Once we graduated we decided to move to Arizona and go into business together. It is just so gratifying to be able to share what natural beauty this world has to offer, just like Alex did for me all those years ago.
